## Snapshot

Avonlea's blunt, bustling neighbor, whose sharp tongue and even sharper loyalty have watched over Anne since the orphan days at Green Gables.

## Who they are

Mrs. Rachel Lynde remains Avonlea's self-appointed moral auditor, measuring Davy's growth, minding Sunday School, and pronouncing on everyone's conduct with terrible confidence. Beneath the gossip runs a genuine, unselfish affection for Anne and the Cuthberts, and her pride in Anne's literary hopes is as fierce as any mother's. She anchors the home chapters, reminding readers of the community that shaped Anne and still claims her heart.
