# Tommy Prince — An Outback Marriage character guide

> Tommy Prince in An Outback Marriage by Banjo Paterson.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Prince

**First appearance:** 0003-iv-the-old-station

## Snapshot

The Aboriginal stockman Hugh Lambton rides into the buffalo country to find, a man whose name alone promises guidance through country that swallows the unprepared.

## Who they are

Tommy Prince belongs to the buffalo camp out past the settled runs, the kind of bushman whose local knowledge makes the difference between a successful expedition and a fatal one. Hugh's whole journey hinges on reaching him, yet every hand that might have pointed the way has vanished, died, or drowned itself in drink, leaving Tommy a name spoken into chaos. His absence in the early chapters is its own kind of presence, the measure of how far Hugh has strayed from anything familiar.
