# Hunt — An Antarctic Mystery character guide

> Hunt in An Antarctic Mystery by Jules Verne.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0008-ix-fitting-out-the-halbrane

## Snapshot

A silent, falcon-eyed sailor who signs aboard the Halbrane with his gaze fixed southward, as if the ice itself had already claimed him once.

## Who they are

Hunt joins the crew as an enigma, a man whose enormous hands grip the wheel like iron and whose eyes never leave the southern horizon. The boatswain swears no ordinary sailor could steer with such uncanny precision, and the crew's unease grows around his muteness and stillness. His hidden motives and unnatural familiarity with polar waters make him the story's most unsettling presence, a figure whose true purpose only the ice will reveal.
