A black-bearded Zu-Vendi lord and suitor of Nyleptha who turns his long sword against the strangers and dies hurled from the bridge.

## Who they are

Nasta is a great lord of the Zu-Vendi, powerful enough to command followers and proud enough to plot against the queen who refused him. When his conspiracy collapses on the temple stair, he alone among the fleeing assassins stays to fight, dealing Umslopogaas a blow that bites through chain armour and nearly ends the old Zulu. His desperate stand and his fall from the parapet make him the human face of the rebellion—a rival whose wounded pride and strength give the early–middle arc its political and physical menace.
