# Felix Aquila — After London character guide > Felix Aquila in After London by Richard Jefferies. **Role:** major **First appearance:** 0007-i-sir-felix ## Snapshot A young hunter with a yew bow and a trained eye, he reads broken branches and bruised bark like a page of forest scripture. ## Who they are Felix Aquila rides an unremarkable horse beside his brother Oliver's splendid Night, carrying a yew bow while others carry lances, and the contrast quietly defines him. He loves Lady Aurora of Thyma Castle, an attachment her father refuses to acknowledge, and his sharp woodcraft—spotting a Bushman's throw-club marks on a willow—shows a mind better suited to the wild than to courtship or inheritance. As he prepares to leave home, his skill and his forbidden hope set him on the forest track where the story truly begins. ## In the story ### [The Lake](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/after_london_se/chapters/v-the-lake) Mentioned as the first to explore and name much of the Lake. ### [I: Sir Felix](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/after_london_se/chapters/i-sir-felix) The protagonist, a proud and independent young noble who secretly studies ancient texts and treasures relics of the old world, including letters from Aurora Thyma. ### [The House of Aquila](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/after_london_se/chapters/ii-the-house-of-aquila) The elder brother, studious and reserved, skilled with the bow but scorned by nobles for using a 'missile weapon.' ### [IV: The Canoe](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/after_london_se/chapters/iv-the-canoe) Working on the canoe; keeps his voyage plans secret; endures Oliver's taunts. ### [Baron Aquila](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/after_london_se/chapters/v-baron-aquila) Felix is consumed by bitterness and hopelessness, feeling his talents are wasted.
