> The Doctor in A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder by James De Mille.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** doctor, Doctor

**First appearance:** 0001-ii-adrift-in-the-antarctic-ocean

## Snapshot

A ship's physician whose quiet, methodical eye turns a barnacled copper cylinder into a genuine scientific puzzle worth taking seriously.

## Who they are

Aboard the yacht, the doctor is the calm counterweight to Melick's sensational theories, patiently dismantling the notion that the manuscript is a novelist's hoax. He reads the barnacle layers, identifies the papyrus, and reasons through ocean currents with a commonsense rigor that makes the find feel real. His steady skepticism gives the frame narrative its credibility, grounding the fantastic tale that follows in observable evidence.
