Oxenden is the expedition's most serious mind, lamenting that the sailor More never bothered to document Kosekin theology or ethnology properly. He defends More's simple motives while wishing for a fuller account, revealing a temperament that values truth over sensation. His deep impressiveness and scholarly regret set the tone for why this strange manuscript matters, framing the tale as a genuine intellectual discovery rather than mere entertainment.
