## Snapshot

Just out of school and pretending to enjoy it, Quenrede Saxon drifts between Art School, desultory singing, and a home that has shrunk around her.

## Who they are

Pretty Quenrede has left the College and discovered that emancipation is mostly boredom: a weekly art class, half-hearted practice, and no career that appeals. She misses the form's ready-made purpose and covers the loss with an air of being a young lady at leisure. Her restlessness mirrors the household's wider unease at Wynchcote, and her teasing of Ingred keeps the sisters' rivalry affectionate and sharp.
