# Spennie Dreever — A Gentleman of Leisure character guide > Spennie Dreever in A Gentleman of Leisure by P. G. Wodehouse. **Role:** supporting **Also known as:** Spennie, Dreever **First appearance:** 0001-a-gentleman-of-leisure ## Snapshot A young man-about-town whose cheerful fecklessness and comic misadventures make him the kind of friend Jimmy Pitt can rely on for trouble rather than help. ## Who they are Spennie Dreever moves through the easy, smoke-filled world of the Strollers' Club, where young men fresh from the theatre trade gossip about Jimmy Pitt's return from Europe and envy his money, health, and bachelor freedom. Spennie belongs to that same gilded set, but his role is less the fortunate idler than the amiable bumbler whose schemes and scrapes keep the social comedy turning. His friendship with Jimmy places him at the edge of the novel's early mischief, where a gentleman's leisure is less about rest than about the trouble one can stumble into between bets, clubs, and late-night talk. ## Relationships ### [Sir Thomas Blunt](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/characters/sir_thomas_blunt) _family_ Sir Thomas is Spennie's uncle, and he is exasperated by Spennie's frivolous and irresponsible behavior. ### [Molly McEachern](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/characters/molly_mceachern) _social_ Molly and Spennie are acquaintances in the same social circle, with Spennie occasionally annoying her with his antics. ### [Sir Thomas Blunt](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/characters/sir_thomas_blunt) _family_ Sir Thomas is Spennie's uncle, and he is exasperated by Spennie's frivolous and irresponsible behavior. ### [Molly McEachern](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/characters/molly_mceachern) _social_ Molly and Spennie are acquaintances in the same social circle, with Spennie occasionally annoying her with his antics. ## In the story ### [At Dreever](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/chapters/viii-at-dreever) The young Earl of Dreever, under his uncle's financial control, who is bringing a friend from London to the castle. ### [At the Turn of the Road](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/chapters/xi-at-the-turn-of-the-road) Lord Dreever invites Jimmy to Dreever Castle, complains about his financial situation and his aunt, and travels by train with the group. ### [Making a Start](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/a_gentleman_of_leisure_se/chapters/xii-making-a-start) Lord Dreever is mentioned as having misdirected Jimmy and as being bullied by his aunt and uncle.
