# Émile Blondet — A Daughter of Eve character guide

> Émile Blondet in A Daughter of Eve by Honoré de Balzac.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Blondet

**First appearance:** 0001-a-daughter-of-eve

## Snapshot

A brilliant Parisian journalist whose wit opens drawing-rooms and whose pen makes and unmakes reputations in the gossip-hungry world of the Restoration.

## Who they are

Blondet moves through the salons and opera boxes of Paris as a man whose conversation is currency, welcome everywhere because he knows everyone's secrets and can turn them into copy. His cynicism is polished rather than bitter, the armor of a man who has seen too much of society to believe in it, yet he remains a useful friend and a dangerous enemy. In the early arc he serves as the connective tissue between the worlds of journalism, finance, and aristocracy, the man whose knowing asides reveal to the reader how this glittering society actually works.
