Allan Quatermain Stories and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz both develop Friendship and Loyalty in the BetterReads catalog — two treatments of the same literary theme, not a random pairing.

Allan Quatermain Stories: Deep bonds form between Quatermain, Sir Henry Curtis, and Captain Good, as well as with native companions, highlighting loyalty and mutual reliance in the face of danger.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: Dorothy forms a deep bond with the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Lion, and they remain loyal to her through dangers, helping each other overcome obstacles and ultimately achieving their goals together.

Friendship and Loyalty appears as a literary theme in 83 works in the BetterReads curated set. Each book develops the idea in its own plot, voice, and historical moment — the links below open the book-scoped theme guide beside the text.

Sara forms deep bonds with Ermengarde, Lottie, Becky, and even the rat Melchisedec, and these friendships provide comfort and support during her darkest times.

The bond between Gethryn and Marriott, along with the support from Reece, underscores the importance of loyalty in the face of adversity, as they stand by Gethryn despite his unexplained actions.

The deep bond between Raffles and Bunny is central, marked by loyalty, betrayal, and sacrifice, as Bunny remains devoted to Raffles despite his criminal nature and personal wrongs.

The bond between Quatermain, Curtis, and Good is a constant theme, as is Quatermain's deep friendship with the Zulu warrio
